Quick answer
What is Manglik (Mangal) dosha? How to check if you are Manglik from your Kundli, which houses cause it, the common cancellations, and what it means for marriage.
Manglik Dosha
Manglik dosha (also Mangal dosha or Kuja dosha) is one of the first things checked in Vedic marriage matching. It concerns the placement of Mars (Mangal), the planet of energy, drive and conflict.
When is a chart Manglik?
A chart is Manglik when Mars occupies one of these houses, counted from the ascendant (Lagna):
| House | Area of life Mars is said to disturb |
|---|---|
| 1st | Temperament: impulsive, dominant |
| 2nd | Family harmony and speech |
| 4th | Domestic peace and comfort |
| 7th | Marriage and partnership directly |
| 8th | Longevity of the marriage, in-laws |
| 12th | Intimacy, expenses, bed comforts |
Many astrologers also check the same houses counted from the Moon and from Venus, which is why someone can be "partly" Manglik.
Common cancellations
Manglik dosha is cancelled, or considered greatly reduced, in many situations. The most widely accepted are:
- Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exaltation (Capricorn)
- Both partners are Manglik, which balances the dosha
- Jupiter aspecting or conjoining Mars
- Mars in the 2nd house in Gemini or Virgo, or in the 12th in Taurus or Libra (regional variations exist)
Remedies traditionally suggested
- Reciting the Hanuman Chalisa or the Mangal mantra "Om Angarakaya Namah" on Tuesdays
- Fasting or giving to charity on Tuesdays
- Kumbh Vivah, a symbolic ceremony performed before marriage in some communities
Manglik status is one factor among many. A strong 7th house, a good Guna Milan score and a supportive Navamsa matter just as much.
Check your chart
Your free Kundli shows Mars's house and tells you whether the chart is Manglik from the ascendant or the Moon, and whether it's cancelled. To compare two charts, use Kundli matching, which checks both partners at once.
