How to use Choghadiya in New Delhi

Choghadiya divides daytime (sunrise to sunset) and night (sunset to next sunrise) into eight equal parts. Each part is ruled by a planet and is good, neutral or bad for starting something. Because the parts depend on local sunrise, New Delhi's timings are unique.

Abhijit Muhurat

The 8th of the 15 daytime muhurtas, centred on local noon. It is considered powerful enough to neutralise most doshas, so it is a reliable fallback when no other muhurat fits, except on Wednesdays.

Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika

Each is one-eighth of the daytime, falling at a different point depending on the weekday. Even an Amrit Choghadiya is traditionally avoided when it overlaps Rahu Kaal.

Tip: for marriages, housewarming (griha pravesh) or buying property, astrologers also check the tithi and nakshatra in the Panchang.
