Quick answer

Find your zodiac sign by date of birth in seconds, learn why birth time reveals your Moon and Rising signs, and what to do if you were born on a cusp.

How to Find Your Zodiac Sign by Date of Birth

The fastest way to find your zodiac sign is to look up your birthday in the table below. That gives you your Sun sign, the sign people mean when they ask "what's your sign?". If you also know your birth time and place, you can find your Moon and Rising signs, which say just as much about you.

Zodiac signs by date of birth

Sign Symbol Dates Element
Aries ♈ March 21 – April 19 Fire
Taurus ♉ April 20 – May 20 Earth
Gemini ♊ May 21 – June 20 Air
Cancer ♋ June 21 – July 22 Water
Leo ♌ July 23 – August 22 Fire
Virgo ♍ August 23 – September 22 Earth
Libra ♎ September 23 – October 22 Air
Scorpio ♏ October 23 – November 21 Water
Sagittarius ♐ November 22 – December 21 Fire
Capricorn ♑ December 22 – January 19 Earth
Aquarius ♒ January 20 – February 18 Air
Pisces ♓ February 19 – March 20 Water

Example: born on 5 August? That falls between July 23 and August 22, so you're a Leo.

Why your birth time matters

Your Sun sign stays the same for about a month, so everyone born in that window shares it. Two other signs change much faster:

  • Moon sign: the Moon changes sign every 2 to 3 days. It describes your emotions, instincts and what makes you feel safe.
  • Rising sign (ascendant): the sign rising on the eastern horizon changes about every two hours. It shapes first impressions, your appearance and your approach to life.

To find these you need your date, time and place of birth. Our zodiac sign finder works all three out at once.

Born on a cusp?

The dates above shift by a day in some years because the Sun enters each sign at a precise moment, not at midnight. If your birthday is the first or last day of a sign, check with your exact birth time. A calculator that uses real planet positions removes the guesswork.

Astrologers don't recognise "cusp signs" as a separate type. You are one sign or the other, but if you're born close to the line you may relate to traits of both.

Western vs Vedic zodiac signs

The table above is the Western (tropical) zodiac, which is tied to the seasons. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which follows the constellations and currently sits about 24° behind. That's why many people find their Vedic sign is one sign earlier: a Western Leo is often a Vedic Cancer.

In Vedic astrology the most important sign is the Moon sign (Rashi), not the Sun sign. You'll find your Rashi and birth nakshatra in a free Kundli.
